MEDIA PUBLISHING
Challenge
Imagine Reddit x Medium x Newspaper in your native language. That's what we've been trying to build. Using machine learning translation software, we've tried to bridge the gap between Europeans by offering them the best content curated by experts from the world's most credible news publishers and thought leaders.
My role
I joined the company as the sole designer, taking on multiple roles typical of a startup. My responsibilities spanned across product, UX/UI, and visual/brand design. Before I came on board, the Forum team had already developed the MVP and secured partnerships with some of the biggest names in publishing.
Their goals were ambitious—they wanted to elevate the platform to the next level. My task was to rethink the existing user flows and almost completely redesign the platform.I worked closely with the CTO, engineering team, and product manager to deliver a fresh, redesigned platform within just two months. From there, we continued iterating, adding new features, and keeping readers engaged. We also focused on enhancing the back-end experience, helping editors streamline and accelerate the publishing process. Interestingly, one of the most challenging yet rewarding features was designing a simple, intuitive solution for editors to publish and edit articles in six different languages.
Takeaway
Forum has been a hell of a ride. We've improved and accelerated editors' workflows, made numerous user interface improvements, experimented with different models to keep readers engaged, and developed the paywall and payment flows from scratch. It's been a super interesting and challenging 9 months.
